Location and Local Information
The workshop will take place at Ecole Centrale de Lille, on the scientific campus (Cite Scientifique) of Lille, northern France.
Lille, the third largest metropolitan area in France, lies on the Brussels-Paris-London connection and is easily accessible by high-speed TGV trains or by plane. More information about arriving in Lille can be found here.
Transportation and Accommodation
Cite Scientifique is located at Villeneuve d'Ascq. It can be easily reached from the city center by metro (Metro Line 1, direction 4 Cantons). There are two metro stations in the campus: station "Cite Scientifique" and station "4 Cantons". The nearest one to the workshop venue is station "4 Cantons"; it is also the final station of Metro Line 1. The journey from the main station in Lille (station "Gare Flandres") to station "4 Cantons" takes about 15 minutes. A unit ticket (Le ticket unitaire) costs 1.25 Euros and it is valid on the entire metro, bus and tramway network for a single trip (i.e. change of direction is not allowed, but you can make transfer from one vehicle to another). Alternatively, you can buy a daily pass (Le Pass Journée, 3.50 Euros) or a book of 10 tickets (Le carnet de 10 trajets, 10.30 Euros). A night pass (Le Pass'soirée) is also available which costs 1.50 Euros, and is valid from 19:00 until the end of service on the entire transportation network. Please note that all these tickets must be stamped once before boarding the train, or immediately when you board the bus (by using the orange devices). There are two hotels that are close to the scientific campus:
- Ascotel (situated inside the campus)
- Olivarius Apart Hotel
You can find a complete list of hotels in Lille and its surroundings at the web site of Lille Tourism Office or this web site which offers a students/teachers rebate scheme. There is also a youth hostel located in the heart of Lille.
Lunch
During the workshop lunch will be served at Restaurant Universitaire Barrois that consists of a main course, 3 side dishes (salad/cheese/desert), a soft-drink and coffee. A lunch ticket costs 8 Euros/day and must be bought in advance from the organizing committee.Wi-Fi Access
